Our Product Innovation Life-cycle
Every Bombardier product – from the Global 7500 aircraft to the TALENT 3 battery-powered train – goes through our Product Innovation Lifecycle. This five-step process ensures we’re innovating at every stage, which allows us to exceed customer expectations and produce the most sustainable and high-performing mobility solutions.
1 DESIGN We consider safety, environment, accessibility and efficiency in the design phase of our product lifecycle, enabling us to develop innovative mobility solutions. |
2 SUPPLY CHAIN AND PRODUCTION We undertake a rigorous supplier selection process to ensure we source the best materials and technologies to bring our designs to life. |
3 MANUFACTURING AND TESTING We integrate health, safety and environment at every stage of the manufacturing process, and conduct rigorous product testing to ensure high performance. |
4 PRODUCT USE AND MAINTENANCE We actively engage with our customers to ensure a safe and accessible passenger experience and the best environmental performance. |

Delivering Safe Autonomous Operations
Our automated train operations innovations provide new technologies for driver assistance systems and driverless trains. In 2019, we released our latest innovation, COMPAS, a collision and over-speed monitoring and prevention system based on our proven Obstacle Detection Assistance (ODAS) technology. A first in the industry, COMPAS is now in the final stages of operational evaluation with additional functionality being planned to enable safer operation of trams on city streets.
Elevating aviation safety
For more than 20 years, Bombardier has held its annual Safety Standdown—a knowledge-based aviation safety training program that aims to make aviation safer for the industry. The program is offered at no cost to all aviation professionals, regardless of the equipment they operate. Originally conceived in 1996, the program quickly expanded beyond an annual seminar into a year-round program that continues to tackle aviation safety risks. To date, almost 10,000 corporate, commercial and military aviation professionals have attended Safety Standdown seminars in person, and thousands more via webcast around the world.
In 2019, we hosted our Safety Standdown in Forth North, in Texas. Safety Standdown 2019 focused not only on how to set, implement and measure high standards, but also on how to systematically elevate standards to entirely new levels.
